Attending a show
Conditions of admittance
Management reserves the right to refuse admission or request a ticket holder to leave the premises in reasonable circumstances including but not limited to health and safety, behaviour, specific covid-19 regulations, or ineligibility to attend. No refunds will be offered in these circumstances.
All personal belongings are the owner's responsibility whilst on the premises.
Customers leaving the venue with the intention of returning whether that being during an act or interval; will be asked to present their tickets again to regain entry.
Failure to carry your ticket will mean refused entry. Customers leaving the vicinity of venue staff sight will also be subject to a secondary bag and or person search.
Customers are advised to arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to the event start time to allow for these checks and recommend customers only bring essential items to events.
If you are bringing a group, please ensure all members of your group are aware of the security searches and the recommended time to arrive at the venues.
Security and prohibited items
Management reserves the right to conduct security searches and confiscate any prohibited items or items which may be considered to cause danger or disruption to the event or other audience members.
Travel light and ensure that possessions are kept to a minimum, only bags sized A4 or smaller will be permitted into the auditoriums, anything larger (including shopping bags or umbrellas) will need to be stored in the cloakroom. A cloakroom service is available at selected events at Hull New Theatre and Hull City Hall at a cost of £1 per item and is free to Extras members.
If you intend to bring any gifts, please ensure that they are not wrapped and in open gift bags ready for any checks upon entry.
If you refuse a security search, you will not be admitted and will not be given a refund.
Prohibited items include, but are not limited to -
- Non-travel sized aerosols
- Hazardous substances (e.g. adhesives, chemicals, irritants, and gas canisters etc.)
- Personal protection sprays
- Any item deemed to be a weapon or having the appearance of a weapon (including sharp objects that could cause harm)
- Alcohol, hot food, and meals
- Projectiles including balls, balloons, frisbees, bats etc.
- Inflatables, signs, flags or banners, confetti/glitter etc.
- Laser lights/pointers, strobe lights and similar light emitting devices
- Handheld communication devices that transmit radio signals, radio jammers or radio scanners
- Professional photography, audio/video recording equipment and drones
- Laptops, computers, tablets
- Substances banned under the Misuse of Drugs Act
- Glass (including perfumes bottles etc.)
- Explosives (snaps throw bangers, party poppers, fireworks, smoke bombs etc.)
- Noisemaking devices (airhorns etc.)
- Non-medical cushions
- Masks and helmets
Prohibited items will be confiscated at entry and retained in the cloakroom. Anything illegal, weapons and/or alcohol will not be returned at the end of the event.
Refreshments are available from the venue's licensed bars and kiosks - select ones are open depending on the performance taking place. Refreshments purchased on site may be taken into the auditorium in non-glass containers only. Please ask the bars team for a non-glass container if required.
Drinking water is available from the Main Foyer Bar at Hull New Theatre and from the Victoria Bar at Hull City Hall free of charge on request.
The following food and beverages items will be permitted into the venues -
- Non-alcoholic drinks in non-glass containers - customers will be required to take a sip from any opened containers
- Sweets, snacks, and confectionery
For standing concerts and sporting events only refreshments/snacks/sweets purchased on site are permitted into the venues.
Appropriate discretion will be made for those with medical requirements and/or special needs we kindly ask that this is communicated to the venue in advance of your visit for ease of entry, please contact us with your booking details on box.office@hcandl.co.uk.
This process may change depending on specific event requirements.
Access
Sennheiser infra-red systems are available from the Duty Manager. These must be booked in advance from the Duty Manager with a refundable deposit of £10 and I.D.
If you need help to attend an event, we operate a carer goes free policy.
Assistance dogs are welcome but please notify the Box Office at time of booking. Owner is responsible for the dog whilst on the premises.
Please notify the Box Office at time of booking if a wheelchair position is required. Wheelchair spaces which remain unsold two weeks prior to the event will be released for general sale.
Hull City Hall has space for six wheelchairs at seated events and a viewing platform for up to four wheelchairs is available at standing concerts and certain events, please check at the time of booking.
Access to the main floor is via a lift on Paragon Street.
Hull New Theatre has space for up to 10 wheelchairs at all events.
There is level access into the main entrance, with lift available to stalls and bar levels.
Both venues have flexibility to add additional spaces subject to availability if required.
If you need help to access our facilities and seating during your visit, please request at the time of booking or see any member of venue staff on arrival who will be pleased to help where possible
Show effects
Please be aware that certain shows may include effects such as -
- smoke and haze
- loud noises
- strobe or flashing lighting
- pyrotechnics
- gun fire
- smoking
- nudity
- strong language
- blood effects
- adult content
Appropriate signage will be displayed within the venue but please also check at the point of booking.
Smoking and E-cigarettes
All venues have a no smoking policy in accordance with the law. This includes electronic cigarettes.
Photography and Electronic Devices
No photography, audio or visual recording equipment is allowed, any person found with these may be asked to leave and the recorded material may be destroyed.
Ticket holders consent to being shown as members of the audience in any official filming, photography and sound recording for example if a performance is to be televised at a later date.
Latecomers
Latecomers may be asked to wait for a suitable break in the performance before taking their seats.
